About this work
I randomly draw faces with beards. I am a proud beard owner myself, so maybe that is where it comes from. A beard adds mystery to a face, at least I would like to think so. It hides a big part of the face and conceals reactions, yet at the same time it draws a lot of attention. So a beard somehow conceals and exposes a person at once, and that contradiction is part of what keeps me coming back to them.
This person ended up looking quite a bit like my uncle, at least how I remember him. At first the face was looking straight at the viewer, but once I realised I had accidentally drawn my uncle, I knew something was off. He had a crooked eye, so I went back and redid the left eye to get the resemblance just right.
